Odyssey PTA is a recipient of the National PTA and Tik Tok #TheSmartTalk Grant! The Smart Talk is an online tool that helps families start a digital safety conversation and then create a personalized family agreement together. PARTICIPATE FOR A CHANCE TO WIN WEEKLY PRIZES!!

Thank you to the National PTA with Tik Tok and Target of Everett for your generous sponsorship of this event! We also want to give a big shout-out to our librarian, Ms. Whitaker! For each week during the month of April, Ms. Whitaker has created lesson plans to include safety tips and responsible choices for online privacy & safety, screen time, social media, apps and downloads, and texting/calling. We ❤️ Ms. Whitaker for keeping our Odyssey students safe online!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE?

 

STEP 1. Go to thesmarttalk.org to complete The Smart Talk Contract.

This is an agreement for digital safety between the parent/guardian and the child. Take a screenshot of your family agreement.

 

STEP 2. Send the contract AND a photo of how your family spends time together to odysseypta.connect@gmail.com

 

FAQ

1. When is the prize drawing?

When you send in your digital safety contract and family photo, your name will be entered into a drawing. Ms. Whitaker, our librarian, will pick names to win prizes on Wacky Wednesdays (4/14, 4/21, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 5/27, 6/2, 6/9)

 

2. What if I have trouble sending the digital contract?

You can simply take a screenshot of the first page of your contract, "Your Ground Rules" and send it along with your family photo to odysseypta.connect@gmail.com.

 

3. How do I pick up my prizes?

You can pick up your prizes on Library Thursdays with Ms. Whitaker at Odyssey curbside between 2:00 - 4:00 PM.

Do you enjoy art, music and dance or have an interest in writing, producing films and taking photos? Then join us and have fun unleashing your inner artist with PTA Reflections! Founded in 1969, Reflections is the oldest and the largest arts education contest in the U.S.

Reflections is open to all grade levels. We encourage all students at any ability to enter this contest. This year’s theme, “I MATTER BECAUSE...,” calls for your own unique interpretation through the arts.

STEPS TO SUBMIT:

1. Choose one of the 6 categories or enter as a Special Artist.

2. Read the Reflections Rules for your category. 

3. Create an Original Work.

4. Write an Artist Statement. Proofread for spelling and grammar errors. 

5. Submit your artwork HERE by JANUARY 18, 2021.

RULES

  • Student entry forms are completed and signed by both parent/guardian AND student.
  • Title and artist statement (100 words or less) is completed. *Please check your spelling and grammar. The PTA cannot edit your statements. 
  • Each entry must be the original work of one student only. 

Special Artist
The National PTA Special Artist Division is an option for students with disabilities who receive services under IDEA or ADA: Section 504 to have the opportunity and accommodations they may need in order to participate fully in the program. The Special Artist Division offers modified rules and guidelines to ensure that every student has the chance to be part of the National PTA Reflections® program.

VISUAL ARTS – 2D/3D

  • Entries may be created on paper, canvas board, cardboard, hot or cold pressboard, or cut canvas.
  • Entries should be mounted on foam core, sturdy cardboard, mat board, or some other rigid material.
  • Submitted artwork may not exceed 24 inches by 30 inches, including a mat, or exceed 1/2 inch in thickness.
  • No material (fabric, string, noodles, beans, beads, etc.) may move freely off the surface of a work.
  • Submit NO wood, metal, plastic, glass, stretched canvas or framed canvas.
  • Take three (3) photos of 3D entries and mount photos on same materials and size as 2D artwork.
  • Ensure there is good light and nothing behind 3D artwork when taking photos. Place on a contrasting surface.
  • Protect entries with transparent cellophane wrap or sleeve designed for artwork. DO NOT laminate or use plastic food wrap.

PHOTOGRAPHY

  • Photography may not exceed 8 inches by 10 and may not exceed 11 inches by 14 inches when including a mat, or exceed 1/2 inch in thickness.
  • Check visual arts vs. photography: art with added graphics/lettering over the images, collages, etc. must be entered as Visual Arts.
  • Entries should be mounted on foam core, sturdy cardboard, mat board, or some other rigid material.
  • Protect entries with transparent cellophane wrap or sleeve designed for artwork. DO NOT laminate or use plastic food wrap. 

LITERATURE

  • Submit the original, typed or handwritten literature document and one copy in a re-closable manila envelope.
  • Entries must be on 8.5 inch by 11-inch paper.
  • Entries must not exceed 2,000 words.
  • Entries may be illustrated, but will be judged on the written content. Graphic novels are acceptable.
  • Mounted or bound entries are not accepted (no staples).

MUSIC COMPOSITION

  • Accepted audio file formats include: MP3, WMA, WAV, ACC, and FLAC.
  • Audio recording must not exceed five (5) minutes in length and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size.
  • Submit both recording and a copy of music scores and lyrics.

DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY

  • Accepted video file formats include: AVI, MOV, MP4, WMV, FLV.
  • Video file must not exceed five (5) minutes in length and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size.
  • Use of background music must be cited on the student entry form.

FILM PRODUCTION

  • Accepted video file formats include: AVI, MOV, MP4, WMV, FLV.
  • Video file must not exceed five (5) minutes in length and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size.
  • Use of background music must be cited on the student entry form
